Understanding Your Cycle
Cycle length: Day 1 is the first day of your period. Cycles shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days are considered irregular, although occasional variation can happen.
Fertility estimates: Ovulation often happens around 12–16 days before the next period. This tool shows a range because timing varies, and predictions can be less reliable with irregular cycles, after pregnancy, while breastfeeding, during perimenopause or when using hormonal contraception.
When to seek help: Speak to a GP if your normal pattern changes, periods are irregular or last longer than 7 days, bleeding is affecting daily life, or you bleed between periods. Seek urgent help from NHS 111 for severe or unusually bad pelvic or period pain that painkillers have not helped.
This tracker provides estimates, not a diagnosis or contraception. Read the current NHS irregular-period guidance, heavy-period guidance and period-pain guidance.
